During CES 2023, OHSUNG Electronics (in cooperation with EXEGER) presented a self-charging, battery-free remote control powered by indoor light. Therefore, we can expect that in the near future, Google TV / Android TV devices will come with remote controls that do not need AAA batteries to operate.
Google TV / Android TV remote control in which you do not need to charge and replace the battery
Ohsung Electronics (European partner of TW Electronics), the leader in remote control manufacturing, is mainly known for the remote controls (G10 and G20) that come with current Android TV and Google TV devices. Recently, the company unveiled a new reference remote control for Google TV/Android TV streaming devices designed in collaboration with Swedish technology company Exeger. REY (remote control name) uses proprietary Powerfoyle™ technology from EXEGER. The EXEGER says that Powerfoyle transforms all forms of light, both natural outdoor and indoor light, into pure, infinite energy.
“The primary goal of REY is to offer an eco-friendly TV remote control and set a standard for sustainability in the market. By integrating Powerfoyle, Ohsung Electronics was able to eliminate the need for batteries in the REY. Instead, the solar cell technology is coupled with a hybrid supercapacitor resulting in a completely self-powered remote control where users never have to worry about changing or charging the batteries, allowing for a truly seamless experience.”
At the moment it is difficult to say when this self-charging, battery-free remote control will appear on the market and with what device. The new 2023 Chromecast 4K is about to debut soon, so who knows if such a remote control will not be offered in the set. By the way, it is worth adding that the idea itself is not new and a self-charging remote control can be found in Samsung’s offer.
Nevertheless, this is the future of remote controls that, in addition to the convenience of users, support ecology.
