How Beelink J45 Mini PC came out in the tests you will learn from this review. However, we can already tell you that, unlike Beelink L55 (review here), the J45 Mini PC works great like a home entertainment / HTPC device, but also for work in the office.

Beelink J45 Review: First impressions, settings, overview of features

This is another well-made Mini PC from Beelink. The top cover features the characteristic Beelink’s logo. Unfortunately, it has gloss, and you can see fingerprints on her, so it’s best don’t touch her often. On the front are: Power button, Audio out/mic port, USB 3.0 fast charge, USB 3.0 port. At the back there are: DC jack, 2x USB 3.0, 1x Gigabit LAN (RJ45), 2x HDMI port. On one side is the Micro SD card slot. On the sides of the device, there are holes that good drain the air obtained from the active cooling. The J45 Mini PC is equipped with a fan, it is not a fanless Mini PC. On the bottom, in four feet, there are screws to unscrew the cover and place 2.5 SATA HDD, M.2 SSD or RAM. We’ve installed Hitachi 2.5″ HDD SATA 250GB 5400RPM.

The Mini PC comes with Windows 10 Home (activated).  The device downloads Microsoft Updates easily and correctly. There’s a single 476GB C:/ drive that had 453GB free space after installing Firefox and Chrome. During the tests, Windows 10 Home runs without problems and stable. We also installed McAfee Total Protection antivirus.

Mini PC runs at a resolution of FHD 1920×1080. There were no problems with the Wifi and Ethernet connection to Internet. We launched a few games such as: Beach Buggy Racing, Asphalt 9: Legends and Minecraft. As with the L55 Mini PC, games also work without a problem.

When you enter the BIOS, you can see that the device has BIOS Version 2.18.1263, UEFI 2.5; PI 1.4. J45 Mini PC has 2x 2.0 HDMI port ([email protected]), and supports dual display. Intel HD Graphics 505 GPU handles this without a problem. To perform video tests we installed version Kodi 18.3 “Leia”. Below you will find many screenshots, we encourage you to browse.

As we wrote earlier, J45 Mini PC runs on Windows 10 Home, the system is activated. Mini PC is equipped with a Intel Apollo Lake Pentium J4205 (14 nm, 4 core, @ 1.50 GHz – 2.60 GHz, 2 MB cache) and Intel® HD Graphics 505 GPU (up to 800 MHz, 2x HDMI 2.0 3840×[email protected]). On the following screens you can see components used (Information taken from the PerformanceTest 9.0). HWiNFO64 detects Intel Apollo Lake Pentium J4205 processor and its HD Graphics 505 GPU correctly. Below screenchots.

Video Tests

Video playback by Kodi 18.3 runs often not smooth. A liquidity problem for large files with 10-bit HEVC. The following table of video samples tested.

Netflix only up to 720p, but if you use the Netflix app available from the Microsoft Store, Netflix plays video in FullHD

We also tested playback via Youtube 4K on three browsers: Chrome, Firefox and  Internet Explore. On all browsers, Youtube video playback in 4K (2160p) resolution was smooth and did not burden the processor. It was similar in the case of Netflix, also played through the browser.

Beelink J45 Review: Conclusions

In contrast to Beelink L55, Beelink J45 Mini PC is better for home use. Not only for typical entertainment  (games, video, Internet, etc.), or as HTPC, but also to work with an office package. In a word, it is a good Mini PC to work on a daily basis, as well as for the student. 

If you do not have high performance requirements, and you want a stable Mini PC for work and entertainment, Beelink J45 Mini PC is enough for that.
