Xiaomi Mi Box 4S MAX is the new 4K streaming Box that appeared on the Chinese Xiaomi website. Contrary to previous models, it offers as much as 4GB RAM and 64GB eMMC storage. In addition, it is powered by the well-known Amlogic S905X3 chipset. On its official website, the company sells this streaming box for 499 CNY (about $75). Due to previous experience with devices from the 4S series that did not show up outside of China, it is rather unlikely that we will see the premiere of this streamer in a global version.
First of all, the Mi Box 4S MAX looks identical to the global version of the Mi Box S. The Mi Box 4S Max measures 95 x 95 x 16mm (3.74″ x 3.74″ x 0.63″). However, apart from more RAM and storage, it does not introduce anything new that we did not know so far in the older Android TV Box. Let’s take a look at the features of the new Xiaomi Mi Box 4S MAX.
Xiaomi Mi Box 4S MAX Overview Features
As we have already mentioned, the heart of the new Xiaomi streamer is no longer the youngest S905X3 SoC offering 4K @60fps H.265, VP9, and H.264 decoding. Amlogic S905X3 is a Quad-core Arm Cortex-A55 (@1.9GHz) processor and also integrates a Mali-G31 MP2 GPU. Besides, Android TV Box supports 8K @24fps decoding. Unfortunately, it does not support the latest AV1 decoding that can be found in the latest streamers equipped with, for example, the Amlogic S905X4 chipset.
In addition to 4GB RAM and 64GB eMMC storage, Mi Box 4S MAX supports Dual Band 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth. Android TV Box comes with interfaces: HDMI 2.1 port, USB 3.0 Type-A port, DC port, and Audio Out port. Besides Mi 4S MAX streamer ships with Xiaomi’s Android TV-based software featuring the MIUI user interface and has limited support for popular video streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube. In addition, it supports Dolby and DTS sound. Unfortunately, it does not support Dolby Vision or Atmos. Besides, the device is shipped with Bluetooth voice remote control.
