The following video from our YouTube channel where you can take a look at more Venz V12 Ultra TV Box and bundled accessories.
First impressions, settings, overview of features
At the beginning, it is worth mentioning that Venztech is probably the only manufacturer that attaches 2x AAA batteries. The VENZ V12 Ultra TV Box is a made very solidly and aesthetically. The case is made of aluminum in black color, aluminum casing is good for cooling (a big plus), and looks elegant. The case and the TV Box are doing a very good impression. TV Box is a really high quality. As mentioned at the beginning of TV Box is equipped with a latest SoC from Amlogic called Amlogic S912, which supports VP9-10 Profile-2 up to [email protected], H.265 HEVC [email protected] up to [email protected], H.264 [email protected] up to [email protected], H.264 MVC up to 1080p @60fps, MPEG-4 [email protected] up to [email protected] (ISO-14496) and more. TV Box also runs on Android 6.0. On the front panel V12 Ultra TV Box has a IR receiver and power LED. On one side there are three USB 2.0 ports (1x USB OTG). On the rear panel are: external Wifi antenne, Power button, DC jack, S/PDIF optical audio,Gigabit LAN (RJ45), Reset hole, HDMI 2.0a, and micro SD card slot.
At the bottom of the device there are rubber pads to prevent shifting. The V12 Ultra TV Box also has holes for the discharge of hot air.
The new VENZ V12 Ultra comes with the well-known VENZ VZ-RK-1 (airmouse with keyboard) from the VENZ V10 review here. Now when buying VENZ V12 Ultra TV Box, airmouse with keyboard VZ-RK-1 receive in the set (a big plus). Of course VENZ VZ-RK-1 can be purchased separately about €24,95 incl. VAT.
Using VENZ VZ-RK-1 is a real pleasure. Great in the palm of your hand, the buttons respond quickly and you do not have to use a typical keyboard or bluetooth keyboard because you have everything in one device. Boldly say that VENZ VZ-RK-1 is a 3-in-1 device: remote control + airmouse + QWERTY keyboard. The big advantage of VENZ VZ-RK-1 is compatibility with other Android TV Boxes. A big plus for the manufacturer is that instead of the usual remote control, it puts the VENZ VZ-RK-1 which together with the V12 Ultra TV Box creates a great team.
Venz V12 Ultra TV Box has a well-known UI / launcher from earlier models ( VENZ V10 and V10 Pro), launcher looks great and is very readable, providing quick and easy access to the most important features. Very easy and quick passes between the icons. We chose typical the resolution of FHD 1920×1080 (1080p 60Hz) but you can also adjust the preferred resolution or set the auto switch. Everything worked stable and very quickly without delays. Netflix (720p) works without problems. V12 Ultra support also DLNA, Miracast and AirPlay. We had no problem with Ethernet and WiFi connection to router and to Internet (Ethernet: Download – 316.27Mbps Upload – 40.98Mbps, WiFi: Download – 181.87Mbps Upload – 41.74Mbps). In addition to the VENZ VZ-RK-1 airmouse with a keyboard, we used a standard keyboard and mouse and also Gamepad GameSir G3s. Although the device in its specification has 16GB eMMC, storage has 11.87GB of data. The Venz V12 Ultra TV Box is another TV Box which has Kodi 17.1 “Krypton”. Below some screenshots.
If you want to use your smartphone to manage your TV Box, we can recommend a good app called CetusPlay. Applications (app on host and app on smartphone) are available on the Google Play store. Install CetusPlay On TV/Box app on TV box and open, Install CetusPlay on a smartphone.
If we mean a home entertainment center, you can not forget about the games. Therefore, it is worth mentioning that on the V12 Ultra TV Box you can play in games from Google Play store. You can play without a problem just connect gamepad or keyboard. Venz V12 Ultra in combination with VENZ VZ-RK-1 works great with Fruit Ninja® and Jetpack Joyride. On the other hand, if you combine the gamepad (we used GameSir G3s) with the Venz V12 Ultra you can easily play Beach Buggy Racing, Real Racing 3. Games works without problem, even with high resolution works trouble free.
Operating system and components
The Venz V12 Ultra runs on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, namely version 6.0.1 and the Linux Kernel version 3.14.29. Venz V12 Ultra TV Box comes with firmware build number V184.108.40.20670331, but we updated the firmware to the latest version build number V220.127.116.1170511 (you can download new firmware here).
The TV Box is equipped in the very popular a SoC Amlogic S912 octa-core ARM Cortex A53 processor @ up to 2.0GHz processor and GPU ARM Mali-T820MP3, CPU speed between 100 MHz and 2.0 GHz (but in CPU-Z app only 1.51 GHz). On the following screens, you can see exactly the components used and their specification (Information taken from the CPU-Z app). The device is detected as V12 Ultra (q201_Venz) and board q201_Venz. Below screenshots.
After using the DRM info (app) we know that V12 Ultra TV Box supports Google Widevine Moudlar DRM, but unfortunately does not support Microsoft Playready DRM, Marlin DRM and Verimatrix VCAS. Device does not have root access. We have good news for everyone who needs root access. Venz V12 Ultra has installed root access.
Performance tests and benchmarks
For testing, we use the AnTuTu Video Tester 3.0 app and AnTuTu Benchmark 6.1.4. The result 858. Also worthy of note is that V12 Ultra TV Box did not have not supported codecs.
Video playback by Kodi 17.1 Krypton and MX Player runs smoothly and stable. As we wrote in the introduction of the review. Venz V12 Ultra, new flagship TV Box from Venztech, is another good TV Box of this company. It works quickly and smoothly, without any delays. It has a nicely designed launcher. It also has great specifications and equipment. In the set you will find the VENZ VZ-RK-1 airmouse with keyboard, which will replace the typical remote control, mouse and keyboard. You do not have to move from the couch anymore :). VZ-RK-1 is dedicated to TV Boxes from Venztech, but with other Android TV Boxes also works without problems. Venz V12 Ultra is a great TV Box to create a home entertainment center. No problem playing video in various formats and also in 4K resolution. On TV Box also play most games from the Google Play store. It is also worth noting that TV Box is supported by the manufacturer (firmware updates), and will be supported by 3-years warranty in Europe covered by Venztech B.V. and exclusive partners. It was priced at €169,95 including VAT. Once again I want to say thanks to Venztech company and VENZTECH B.V. for sending us a V12 Ultra sample. Given the specification and equipment set (VZ-RK-1) and the warranty, this is a good value for money. Is it worth buying the VENZ V12 Ultra? The answer is YES. We recommend a Venz V12 Ultra Android TV Box.
