Minix NEO T5 and Minix NEO U22-XJ at IFA 2019

As every year, many new products can be found at the IFA fair. IFA 2019 was also full of new products, among others from the Minix brand. We haven’t had any new information about new products from Minix until now. At the IFA 2019 Minix brand showed two new Android TV Boxes called Minix NEO T5 and Minix NEO U22-XJ.

New Minix’s Android TV Boxes basic information

Minix NEO T5

The new Minix Neo T5 is powered by Amlogic S905X2 quad-core SoC (ARM Cortex-A53) and ARM Mali-G31 MP2 GPU, which integrates a TruLife Gen8 VPU with HDR support for video playback. Inside we will also find a 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 16GB of eMMC 5.1 memory.

The connectivity uses a WiFi 802.11ac dua-band module (2.4 and 5 GHz) and Bluetooth 4.2, two USB 2.0 ports, a USB 3.0, an RJ-45 connector (Gigabit Ethernet), a 3.5 mm audio jack, connector optical S / PDIF and HDMI 2.0 video output.

NEO T5 TV Box will be the first Google Certified Android TV Box in the Minix’s portfolio. Minix NEO T5 TV Box will run on Android TV 9.0 OS.

According to the company, Minix NEO T5 will be available starting from October at a price of 85 euros, but the package will include a remote control without a microphone, therefore not compatible with voice commands (weird).

Minix NEO U22-XJ

The new Minix NEO U22-XJ is special because it integrates an new Amlogic S922XJ SoC, a 12 nm hexa-core with four ARM Cortex-A73 cores + two ARM Cortex-A53 cores, flanked by the powerful ARM Mali-G52 MP6 GPU that will allow run games like PUBG without problems.

This specific variant of the Amlogic S922X chipset also includes official support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Audio. In this case, the VPU is an Amlogic Video Engine (AVE-10) processor with support for the latest video formats.

Inside we will also find a 4GB of DDR4 RAM and 64GB eMMC storage expandable thanks to a microSD card reader.

As for the connectivity side, we will have WiFi 802.11ac 2 × 2 MIMO and Bluetooth 4.2 for wireless connections, three USB 3.0 ports, a USB Type-C for data, a Gigabit Ethernet connector, SPDIF digital audio output, an HDMI 2.1, a microSD card reader and two audio jacks.

The operating system will be Android 9.0 Pie with a new Minix launcher. Minix NEO U22-XJ will cost around 170 euros and will probably appear in November.
