MAG425A Review: First impressions, settings, overview of features
TV Box from Infomir is made solidly with good quality plastic. The housing has a square shape with rounded sides. The upper cover has a red circle characteristic for Infomir’s TV Boxes. In addition, the top cover has a Power button, as well as a short distance, on one of the corners there is an LED (you can control the LED in the settings, see screenshots).
On one of the sides of the housing are two USB ports (USB 2.0 and USB 3.0), and a factory reset hole. On the rear panel are HDMI port, RJ45 Ethernet port, DC jack, and micro SD card slot. On the bottom there is informations such as serial number and MAC Address. On the bottom also, there are two rubber pads to prevent shifting.
The remote voice controller looks very nice and fits well in hand. Bluetooth voice remote control works very well. Recognizes voice commands fast and without any problem. Just press the button with colored circles and say the command. Unfortunately, there is a lack of air mouse functionality. Below pictures.
MAG425A runs on Android TV 8.0. The device’s operation is easy, intuitive and known from other TV Boxes, such as the Xiaomi Mi Box. Setup wizard takes fast. You can configure the device step by step. Android TV launcher/Home screen is based on recommendations from many external sources, Youtube, Google Movies, Google Play Games, Google Play Music etc. The recommended content is displayed in rows.
We can choose typically the resolution of FHD 1920×1080 (1080p 60Hz) but you can also adjust the preferred resolution ( also 4K, you need 4K TV) or set the auto switch. Everything worked stable and very quickly without delays. WiFi connection works good, stable and fast. Wifi: Download –
191Mbps Upload – 31.1Mbps, Ethernet: Download – 93.1Mbps Upload – 35.9Mbps. In addition to the bluetooth remote control with voice feature, we used a Logitech MK540 Advanced set and a gamepad from iPega called iPega PG-9076.
MAG425A Impressions from the use
Air TV Box comes with built-in Chromecast support (you can stream your favorite entertainment and apps from your phone, tablet or laptop). As we mentioned at the beginning of the TV Box is equipped with Bluetooth remote control with the voice control feature, so by pressing the button with the colored circles symbol, you can output voice commands. The service works well and fast. Big plus! You do not have to navigate the remote control, just tell what you are looking for. TV Box supports YouTube 4K (2160p). Unfortunately, the TV Box does not support Netflix 4K and also HD. Unable to download Netflix app for Android TV from Google Play store, after installing Netflix_v4.16.1.apk, resolution up to 480p. We also installed the latest Kodi 18.5. The device has only 8GB eMMC storage (system shows 4.3GB). It’s a bit too little.
If you need to control the TV Box through a smartphone, you can use the Android TV Remote Control appl or our favorite CetusPlay (Install CetusPlay On TV/Box app on TV box and open, Install CetusPlay on a smartphone). The number of applications for Android TV OS is limited. The apps that we use for testing we’ve installed from an external source. On MAG425A you can play in games from the Google Play store, as on other Android TV Box. Games run smoothly. Just connect a gamepad or keyboard. We used iPega PG-9076 and played Beach Buggy Racing and Asphalt 8. Below some screenshots.
The Infomir MAG425A comes with preinstalled Infomir’s apps: Ministra Player (An application for viewing content on set-top boxes, Smart TVs, mobile phones, and tablets), MAGic files, MAGic Player, MAGic Audio, MAGic Browser. More about Ministra TV platform (business software for managing IPTV/OTT/VoD projects).
MAG425A Review: Operating system and components
The MAG425A TV Box runs on the Android TV 8.0, Kernel version
4.9.44 and supports OTA updates. We updated the firmware via OTA to 1.7.7 version, an update for the remote controller was also available. Big plus!. TV Box is equipped with HiSilicon Hi3798MV200 ARM Cortex-A53 Quad Core up to 1.60GHz and GPU Mali-450MP, CPU speed between 1200MHz and 1.6GHz. On the following screens, you can see exactly the components used and their specification (Information taken from the CPU-Z app). Below is also a screenshot from DRM info. The device does not have root access. Below screenshots.
Infomir MAG425A: Performance tests and benchmarks
For testing, we use the AnTuTu Video Tester 3.0 app and AnTuTu Benchmark v8.0.4.
Viedo result 626 and eight unsupported codec. Despite this, video playback by Kodi 18.5 Leia runs almost smoothly and stable. The TV Box without problem seems plays movies with the resolution of 480p,720p, and 1080p (24fps, 30fps, 60fps) and also 4K (60fps) with various codecs videos such as H.264, H.265, MPEG2, MPEG4, RMVB, and audio – DTS and AC3. Dolby Digital 5.1 passthrough worked fine via HDMI.
Also, we tested several video formats – AVI, MKV, MP4 (typical formats in which it holds the majority of movies), ISO and also videos was played fine. The tested TV Box plays video files in 4K (also 60fps) almost without any major problems. The following table of video samples tested for Kodi 18.5. TV Box also copes well with playing the video on YouTube, videos play in 4K 2160p. We tried to play VP9 4K video and also runs smoothly.

MAG425A Review: Conclusions
Infomir MAG425A is a (probably) Google Certified TV Box, that works very well, quickly and stable. Despite (you can say) poor results in Antutu tests, TV Box works efficiently and copes well with 4K video playback. Operation via Bluetooth remote control with voice control is friendly and easy. It is a pity that remote control does not have an air mouse feature. Interestingly, WiFi is faster than Ethernet (but that’s the specification). TV Box supports Youtube 4K, unfortunately, it does not support Netflix 4K and HD (the Infomir team should think about it). A big advantage is the updates via OTA. Unfortunately, 8GB eMMC storage is not enough. The current price of 88.30€ is more attractive than the previous one, while a cheaper alternative can be found. However, the end user should be satisfied with the use of MAG425A TV Box, as well as the TV Box will certainly work well as a solution for Internet and IP / TV providers.
