First impressions, settings, overview of features
Emish X800 is a stylish and aesthetically made TV Box, which looks more like a router than TV Box. The housing is made of black glossy (black piano) plastic, which unfortunately will be seen imprinted fingers. In contrast, set on a shelf with audio-video equipment will look elegant. On the front it was hidden LED IR to remote control. On the sides there are only holes for discharge of warm air (big plus!). All interfaces are located on the rear panel. We find here: Composite AV ports, 2x USB 2.0 host ports for connecting, for example external drives, RJ45 LAN Fast Ethernet, HDMI 2.0 output port, DC jack 5V 2.5A, Power swich and two external Wi-Fi antennas.
In addition to the warm air outlets on the sides of the device, at the bottom also found warm air outlet. Below also remote control which works without a problem.
Booting Android to the “home screen” takes about 43.2 seconds (to long!). “Home screen” launcher Emish X800 looks nice and very, very simple and easy to use. In addition to the remote control I used the standard keyboard and mouse.
The device worked in the resolution of FHD 1920×1080 (1080p 60Hz) but you can also adjust the preferred resolution (also 4K) or set the auto mode. On the launcher we have access to the most important features: settings, apps, browser, file manager, kodi, facebook etc. Emish has also DLNA and Miracast. Unfortunately 1GB RAM in the device is a little low. TV box running slowly. The 8GB partition has been partitioned in to a 2.26GB “internal storage” and a 3.78GB “NAND FLASH” partition. I had no problem with Ethernet and WiFi connection to my router. Below a few screenshots.
TV Box has the most installed version Kodi 14.2. Belowe screenshots from Kodi.
On the Emish X800 you can run simple games such as Beach Buggy Racing and Jetpack Joyride. They work without a problem and stable, even at maximum resolution. You can play without a problem just connect gamepad.
Operating system and components
The Emish X800 runs on the Android 5.1 Lollipop, namely version 5.5.1 and the Linux Kernel version 3.10.0. X800 TV Box is equipped with a SoC Rockchip RK3368 Octa-core 64-bit Cortex–A53 processor and GPU PowerVR G6110, CPU speed between 312 MHz and 1.5 GHz. On the following screens you can see exactly the components used and their specification (Information taken from the application AnTuTu Benchmark v5.7.1, CPU-Z and AIDA64). Emish X800 TV Box chip in the app CPU-Z is recognized as RK3066, it is still not added to the base RK3368. The other application is OK.
Performance tests and benchmarks
For testing I use the app AnTuTu Video Tester 3.0 and AnTuTu Benchmark 5.7.1. The following screenshots from the video test. The result 529.
Video playback by Kodi 14.2 and MX Player runs depending on the resolution and used codecs it works differently, is not always good. Emish X800 without problem seems plays movies with the resolution of 480p,720p and 1080p (24fps, 30fps, 60fps) but with 4K video and those used codecs H.265 and H.264, MPEG4 playback was not smooth, they were jumping frames the image is not synchronized with the audio. Also I tested several video formats – AVI, MKV, MP4 (typical formats in which it holds the majority of films). In addition, sometimes there were problems with Kodi, the application did not want to run or displayed was a window with information “Kodi isn’t responding. Do you want to close it?“. Probably the manufacturer does not put to optimize the code. The following table compares Kodi and MX Player for some video samples.
Typical 1080p | KODI | MX Player |
MPEG2 / MP2 2.0 – 6.6Mbps | OK | OK |
MPEG4 / MP3 2.0 – 7.6Mbps | OK | OK |
H264 / AAC 2.0 – 7.2Mbps | OK | OK |

Despite the fact that Emish X800 has RK3368 chip is compared to ZIDOO X6 Pro copes much worse with 4K files.
Emish X800 Benchmarks
The Emish X800 scored 31124 on AnTuTu Benchmark 5.7. Below a lot of screenshots of AnTuTu and GeekBech 3.
The Emish X800 scored 4668 on Ice Storm Extreme and scored 7091 on Ice Storm Unlimited.
Below screen with the results in Vellamo, GPUbench, HTML5test.
Conclusions
Emish X800 is a stylish and aesthetically made TV Box. The housing is made of black glossy (black piano) plastic and has a lot of hot air outlets so as a big plus. The heart of Emish X800 is a Rockchip RK3368 octa-core 64-bit Cortex-A53 processor which provides fast and stable operation, and supports H.265 / H.264 video playback in hardware decoding and output 4K @60fps resolution video. Well-play video content in 1080p and 4K (only with MXplayer). Unfortunately, 1GB of RAM is too little and you can feel slower reaction. When it comes to vendor support and firmware updates for a moment we have no information. Specially for readers androidtvbox.eu with this coupon code: GBX800 you can buy Emish X800 for $60 + free shipping (Once again I want to say thanks to Gearbest for providing sample for review). If you are looking for the TV Box with a new chipset (RK3368), which will look elegant, it will have a simple UI that’s easy to use, will play popular codecs and video in the resolution 4K, which also will be able to play simple games, and the last to be cheap this Emish X800 is for you. But if you you are aiming for a price mainly as an alternative worth considering: Beelink X2 – $31.99 and MXIII-G TV Box – $60.99.
