Recently, Amazon introduced the 3rd gen Alexa voice remote for Fire TV Sticks 2021 release. Is this an appeal to Google’s Reference Design remotes, perhaps? Because you can see the similarities, for example, in the dedicated buttons.
What’s new in the Alexa Voice remote (3rd gen.) 2021 release?
First of all, the 3rd gen Alexa Voice remote control features dedicated buttons for other popular streaming services. Now you will be able to launch Disney+, Netflix, Prime Video, and Amazon Music with one button. Interestingly, some of the dedicated hotkeys apps will vary by region.
In the US, the app buttons are for Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, and Hulu. Probably, Prime Video and Netflix will always be the first two buttons, the other two buttons may differ from region to region and may change over time. In Germany, Canada, and several other countries, for example, the bottom two buttons are for Disney+ and Amazon Music. Interestingly, the third button on the remote sold in India is labeled as “Apps” and, presumably, will open the Fire TV’s grid of all apps when pressed.
Besides, the new Amazon’s Alexa voice remote supports your compatible TV, soundbar, and receiver with dedicated power, volume, and mute buttons.
Compatible and not compatible Fire TV Sticks
Of course, not all Fire TV Stick generations are compatible with the new Amazon Voice remote 3rd. gen. Compatible with Fire TV Stick Lite, Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen and later), Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Cube (1st Gen and later), and Fire TV (3rd Gen, Pendant Design). The new 3rd Gen Alexa Voice Remote is not compatible with Fire TV (1st and 2nd Gen), Fire TV Stick (1st Gen), or Fire TV Edition smart TVs.
Availability and price
The new remote, which Amazon calls the 3rd Gen Alexa Voice Remote, is available to pre-order now for $29.99 and it will be released on April 14 in the US.
