Finally, the new Chromecast with Google TV HD version is now available. In mid-September, we unveiled new details, but now everything is clear, and we know the features and price. The 2022 Google Chromecast HD (with Google TV) is an option for cord-cutters that are satisfied with Full HD (1080p) streaming. As for the price, it could always be cheaper.
Availability and price
2022 Google Chromecast with Google TV HD version you can buy for $29.99 (US), and €39.99 (Europe) directly from the Google store. The latest Google’s HD streamer is also available on Amazon. Unlike the 4K version, the device is only available in white color.
As for the price, it is not cheap. You can get Walmart’s Onn Android TV Stick for $15 ($14.88) less. However, what distinguishes Google Chromecast with Google TV HD is the support of AV1 decoding.
Chromecast with Google TV HD vs 4K version
When it comes to differences, we will not find them in design. When it comes to using, they are essential. As the name suggests, Chromecast HD only supports Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080p video output). Unlike the 4K version, the HD streamer is powered by the aforementioned Amlogic S805X2 chipset. It supports AV1 decoding, which is currently popular in streaming. More in the table below prepared by Brad Linder from Liliputing.
